The What and the Why of Reiki
The word “reiki” combines two Japanese characters or kanji: “rei” means spiritual or transcendent, and “ki” means energy or vital force. It is most simply translated as “spiritual energy,” and is intelligent, self-organizing, and accumulative in its effects.
Reiki also designates a system of vibrational or spiritual healing that promotes homeostatic balance and greater overall well-being.
The Reiki System of Natural Healing was rediscovered in the early 20th century by Mikao Usui, a Japanese Buddhist monk. The Reiki System was brought to the West over 80 years ago, and its increasing acceptance and use in hospitals, hospices, spas and wellness centers has made Reiki one of the most in-demand healing modalities in the United States and around the world.
Reiki has no contraindications, and can do no harm, therefore it cannot interfere with any medical treatment you may be receiving.
How does Reiki work?
The Reiki System uses non-invasive, gentle touch to accelerate the body’s natural healing processes, support mental and emotional healing, and give an overall sense of profound well-being.

What can I expect from a session?
To start, we'll take some time to chat about what you are hoping to accomplish with Reiki. I'll answer any and all questions you may have, and then we'll set a specific intention for your session, and get started. You will remain fully clothed, and will lie on a message table to receive the Reiki. Comfortable clothing is recommended. Reiki is administered with either a light lying of hands, if you’re comfortable being touched, or hands-off if you prefer, meaning my hands will hover over your body — it’s totally up to you, the Reiki will flow and benefit you regardless.
What will I feel/experience during the session?
The experience of Reiki is different for everyone, and typically varies from session to session. In general, you can expect to feel gentle warmth, and maybe some gentle tingling sensations. Some people note seeing colors and/or having visions, experiencing a wave-like sensation, and many other things. It’s highly individualized, so it’s best to come in with no preconceived notions about what might happen, and simply be open to what the Reiki might bring to you.
Do I need to have more than one session?
It’s entirely up to you. Reiki is cumulative, meaning the more you receive, the stronger the effects will be. Give it a try with one session and see how you feel.
Is Reiki right for me?
The benefits of Reiki are open and available to everyone. There is no reason to believe that Reiki might not be right for you, but only you can make that choice.
